A New Year and a New Blog

Hello, everyone…It’s been a long time since I last wrote here. Retirement is now behind me, and I am beginning a wonderful adventure – I will spend this winter, this new year, on my beloved Madeline Island. I’ve been busy getting my little house ready for the long, tough winter out here in the middle of Lake Superior. It will be a season of reading, writing, and settling into the presence of this stunning lake, this world of the north. I will be held within the warmth of the island community and my precious friends near and far. I’m wondering how all this will shape me and my understandings of these stunning journeys of ours and of our lives in these difficult and challenging times. After all: what in the world is going on??? I hope you will join me!

  1. Hope you are snug there Penny! We just had our first snow in western MA. I am re-reading your book for the third or fourth time and as usual you and Manjushri help to calm my aching heart and mind. Like you I have long felt an outsider in academe and have never dared to write or speak openly of my spiritual quest. I am beginning a new book in which I try to lay out a new vision for education—girded by a new field I’m calling Gaia Studies. I would love to be in touch with you as I work on this vision, which feels very urgent and also very out of bounds—
    Sending love, Jennifer

So glad to hear from you, Jennifer. No, these are really challenging times. Do be in touch. Use my email, as I read that much more frequently. (pgill@mtholyoke.edu.)
